bangkok: "oh-pen the bah-tuhl."

gulp bonk yawn ugh breathe rrrrr tick

tourist. yes, that would be me. so here we are at wat po, the home of the huge reclining buddha!
some of that. you'll notice that the majority of my captions contain absolutely no content whatsoever. now perhaps you may have already been thinking that. but this set will be even worse.
and that's because . . . our tour guide sucked like hell. her english was so bad. and anteater's thai was equally bad, so . . .
and we are: the reclining buddha. 40 meters long and 15 meters high or something like that. do those dimensions seem realistic? if yes, then that's what they are. if no, ah well.
it's so huge that my camera wasn't able to capture it in its entirety. entirety - now there's a dumb word.
the other end was better.
what i probably would have been expected to do if anteater's relatives had actually managed to find someone and communicate the fact that i was deathly ill. luckily i recovered. no offense to buddha or anything of course.
*shrug*
fancy decorations on the reclining buddha's foot.
the art on the wall tells the story of buddha's life. this was one of the few facts i was able to decipher from our tour guide.
*shrug*
four big things, one for each of the kings: king rama 1, 2, 3, and 4.
if i were i monk, i'd be ringing this bell a few times a day.
the architecture was very intricate. influences include thai, chinese, and err... something else. damn you tour guide!
lesser members of the royal families. under each of these lie the actual ashes of the respective person. whoa!
the signs helped. all i could think about though was lunch. crunch, munch, slurp. food. good.
this looks like a scene out star wars the phantom menace. where's queen amidala? i'd like to meet her. i have something to tell her. "queen amidala, this is your domain. i feel i must return to mine. i have decided to return to berkeley."
according to our tour guide, 95% of all thai people are buddhist, the highest percentage in the world. i believe it.
this could be me. you know, listening to paul van dyk just puts me in the right mood to write these captions. very strange indeed. i guess it helps me deal with the boredom.
i'm lucky i live in the us. when she sees that i have posted this, who knows what consequences i might face. crushed ribs, broken back, etc.
my favorite number. who the hell really has a favorite number. some number then.
same thing as in koh samui.
more of that.
and here we have some random things at a buddhist temple where the king and queen come to pray.
another shot of that. hmph. and you thought all i did was go to clubs and raves in thailand. look at all this culture. ho ho ho . . .
some other shiny gold thing. good!
more. how attentive i must been during my tour guide's explanation of this magnificent gold building. magnificent, now there's a ridiculous word. it's almost as ridiculous as words like splendid or marvelous. check out this dining guide put together by some person in boalt. does he sound like fun? you decide.
it's times like these where i wish i hadn't take so many pictures.
more.
the design of these buildings is very intricate. had i been able to decipher my tour guide's bad thanglish (thai english, i just made this word up, please use it), perhaps i'd have more to say about this.
lucky for me, these elephants weren't very big and they were stationary! that elephant in front of that mercedez benz dealership really didn't appreciate the flash from my digital camera. hahaha..
please let me escape.
don't read this please.
some caption.
and another.
if i really had something interesting written here, would you actually read it? probably not.
so.
i. oh wait, if you look closely here, you can see the emerald buddha. it's solid jade. ooooooh
more things.
and more.
more.
more.
i can only see so many buddhas in one day. at this point, i had already exceeded my maximum buddha allowance for the day. nevertheless, i thought this might make a cool (yes, cooool) picture.
various buddhas in various poses.
like the standing buddhia in the attitude of calming the ocean for example.
i dunno.
ah yes, it ends.
