tokyo: sensory overload.

shinjuku akihabara ginza harajuku shibuya ebisu takashimaya

random store before heading out to akihabara.
shinjuku in the daytime.
underground shopping mall!
however, as with most shopping malls in tokyo, 99.9998743% of the stores are devoted to serving the vast fashion needs of japanese girls! no exception here!
sign.
fruit is INSANELY expensive here compared to the us. a dozen oranges? that will be $60, please.
how about a single watermelon? $48!
individually wrapped musk melon? breaking the bank at $144 usd!
jr yamanote line sign.
a non-busy train station.
more of that.
exit to akihabara!
one of many enormous electronics stores in akihabara.
overall, however, i found tvs, dvd players, mp3 players, digital cameras, etc. to be very comparable in terms of selection (with prices slightly higher here) compared to what's accessible from, say, . . . ahem . . . my favorite store on earth, amazon.com. :P
inside one of the aforementioned gargantuan electronics stores.
laboring up the stairs. heat, humidity, new shoes, stairs, ... arrrg! :P
manga. whoa.
whew! elevator time!
descending the stairs in one of the sega gamecenters in akihabara.
for the us traveler, perhaps the best things to buy in akihabara are the wacky electronics items you can't easily obtain in the us. one not so wacky subset of that are cool clocks! example: these huge totoro wall clocks. :D
same clock store with super-sized american tourist blocking my view.
another sega building.
etc.
ARRGGGG!! these games are a killer. i blew 700 yen trying to win a pack of totoro trading cards at a machine just like this in kabukicho. not even close! :P
another of these cash-guzzling machines! note: i have never seen anyone win anything out of one of these boxes.
heading out of akihabara. this is the view from the train station.
exiting.
